Prompt cards are designed to guide learners as they think about text and help to improve student engagement with and understanding of text.

• Practice using the prompt before modelling to your students.
• Model how you use the prompt to guide your thinking as you read (use a familiar read aloud or shared text).
• Have students practice with you.
• Have students practice independently.
• Have students share how the prompt helps them as a reader.
• Keep prompts visible and accessible to support your learners as they continue to practice with the prompts independently.
• Enable: Offer small group support for those readers who require more guided practice in using the prompt.
