The information provided in this document Teaching Vocabulary by Diane Snowball is based on the research and practices outlined in texts such as those by Beck & McKeown (2002) and Farstrup and Samuels (2008), listed in the references.
There is so much known about best practices in vocabulary teaching and learning and the importance of students having a strong and growing vocabulary that ALL teachers at ALL levels and in ALL domains should be teaching vocabulary effectively.
This article is divided into two sections:
