This resource, The 6+1 Traits of Informational Writing, supports planning, teaching with mentor texts, feedback and assessment.,
Each trait includes:
- Important explanations for each trait in relation to informational writing
- Keys to success for each trait e.g. The key to success in Voice is when writers exude confidence about the topic and feel free to express themselves in new and original ways, always staying true to the facts and information presented.
- Mentor texts; What type of mentor text to use for a trait e.g. For the Word Choice trait, choose Mentor Texts that use strong verbs: The writer uses many action words, giving the piece punch and pizzazz. The writer has stretched to find lively verbs that add energy to the piece
